Max Savage glanced across the lush green lawn of Gabriel and Isabelle Dare’s Bedford, New York, home, his gaze focused on the sexy brunette he couldn’t get out of his head. Lucy Dare, dressed in a conservative pants suit, her luxurious dark hair pulled into a bun, stood beside her date, a Hollywood director who was a douchebag of the first order.

The last time Max had seen Lucy, she’d been her wild and free self. Then she’d hooked up with that guy and she’d changed. And not in a good way. He wanted fun, sexy Lucy back.

“How badly do you want to punch that guy’s teeth in?”

“So badly,” Max muttered, then glanced over, realizing the question came from Lucy’s brother, Decklan Dare.

Max shook his head and changed his answer, because it would do no good to let his best friend know he was obsessing over the guy’s little sister. He’d kept it to himself for years, partially as an excuse to deny what he really wanted, but regardless, this wasn’t the right time to bring up the issue.

“Who do you mean?” Max asked.

Decklan rolled his eyes. “Oh, come on. I know you hate that Spielberg wannabe as much as we do.”

“Can’t say he’d be my first choice for your sister.”

“That’s rich considering it’s your fault she’s with him to begin with.” Decklan eyed Max with distinct annoyance in his gaze.

“How the hell do you figure that?” Max asked.

Decklan’s older brother, Gabe, joined them, and from the look on his face, he’d clearly caught the tail end of the conversation.

“Face it, Savage. We know you have a thing for Lucy,” Gabe said.

Just how the brothers had gleaned that bit of knowledge was beyond Max. Nobody had a better poker face than him.

Decklan merely nodded in agreement.

“You didn’t take your chance last time she was in town, and now she’s with that asshole,” Gabe added, angling his head toward where his sister stood with Lucas Kellan.

“Well, fuck.” Max wasn’t about to deny what had clearly been more obvious than he’d intended.

Both Dare brothers narrowed their gazes on him, waiting for an explanation.

“What? I didn’t think you’d approve, and I wasn’t about to mess up years’ worth of friendship if you didn’t.” He was sticking to the tried-and-true excuse he’d told himself for years. In reality, Max had his reasons for staying away from

Lucy for so long and for fucking up more than just his life in the process. But they were his, and he wouldn’t be sharing them.

“The only way you’d compromise friendships would be if you used or hurt my sister. If your intentions are honorable, I have no issue,” said Gabe, the man who’d raised Lucy after their parents died in a car accident.

Max glanced at Decklan. They both knew Max’s recent past. He’d married young, lost his wife, Cindy, in a car accident, and had a subsequent lack of serious relationships since. What Decklan didn’t know was the guilt Max harbored over the emotions he hadn’t been able to give his wife, due to the feelings he’d always had for Lucy. Hell, he’d married Cindy because he didn’t have those intense feelings, and everyone had paid a price.

Max shifted uncomfortably and cleared his throat and glanced at Decklan, who, like Gabe, was extremely protective of his sister. “You too? You’re okay with this?” he asked.

His best friend shrugged. “Well, you’re an asshole but you’re our asshole.” He slapped Max on the back, his expression sobering. “Look, Cindy died four years ago, and you haven’t been with anyone seriously since.”

Neither one of them mentioned Max’s penchant for sex clubs on the weekends. It had been a way to fill the emptiness inside him, nothing more.

“But Gabe is right,” Decklan said. “I see how you look at Lucy. You should do something about it if your intentions are solid.”

They finally were. For years Max had denied his need for Lucy and the emotional bond he knew they would share if they took things to the next level. Fear had driven him. Now Max was finally ready to go after the woman he’d always wanted.

“Just don’t blow it or we will have an issue,” Decklan cheerfully added.

Max didn’t need to be told twice. He made his way across the lawn and veered between guests, coming up to where Lucy and her date stood by the bar.

My Review

★★★★★

I absolutely loved this book. Lucy and Max have incredible chemistry throughout the book, maybe due to knowing each other so long, or both having gone through loss.

Lucy is a guarded but strong heroine, and it’s awesome to see her just let go and enjoy life. Max is almost the complete opposite, letting her know exactly what he wants and has no issues going after it.

I seriously don’t know how my iPad didn’t overheat, the sex scenes were so hot. I can’t even put in to words the feelings it brought out, but Carly definitely nailed those ;).

It was great catching up with the rest of the NY Dare’s, and to see how they were doing and what is going on in their lives at the moment.

A phenomenal read, that I would recommend to anyone looking for a sexy, steamy read.

Excerpt

He had no right.

He had no business.

But it didn’t matter, because he couldn’t help himself. He leaned forward and claimed her mouth hungrily with his.

Her lips moved beneath his immediately, her hands flattening on his chest as he reached around her waist and pulled her up against his body. Her lips tasted like coffee with a hint of sweetness, and he wanted more—more of her, more of the sweetness. Sweeping his tongue over her lips, she opened for him, and he tilted his head, slanting his lips to cover hers more perfectly. Their tongues tangled—velvet heat, timid at first and then more sure, her teeth razing his flesh as he plunged hungrily into her mouth, swallowing her whimper and adjusting her against his body so that his hardness lined up with the valley of her sex. He groaned as she nipped his bottom lip, leaning her head to the side as he slipped his tongue back into her mouth. Moaning softly, she arched into him, and he slid his hands up her back, bracketing the sides of her breasts through the flimsy material of her blouse and feeling the frantic, ragged pull of her breath beneath his fingers as he kissed her.

And kissed her.

And kissed her.

Another whimper sounded from the back of her throat, and suddenly he realized that the hands she’d flattened against his chest were pushing him away. With a grunt of frustration, he released her, stepping back. Reaching up, he touched his lips with the back of his hand, panting as his knuckles dragged over the sensitized skin. He scraped in a shaky breath, staring at her, forcing himself not to lunge for her and draw her back into his arms.

Her chest heaved up and down from the force of her breathing, her blouse was disheveled, and the skin around her lips looked pink, though her lipstick was still perfectly in place. Her eyes were wide. And angry.

“You can’t do that!” she said in a breathless whisper. “You can’t just—”

“I know,” he mumbled, dropping his hand from his lips and raking it through his hair. What the hell had he just done? What was he thinking?

“You can’t accuse me of . . . of falling for you two days ago and then . . . then k-kiss me in p-private like . . . like the world is ending today. It’s not . . . it’s not fair, Chris.”

“I’m sorry. I just . . .”

He turned his back to her, confusion making him wince. He didn’t trust her. He didn’t want anything to do with her. Why couldn’t he help himself around her?

She raised her voice, speaking angrily to his back. “You said this was a job. An . . . an act. That didn’t feel like an act.”

“It wasn’t.”

“You’re confusing me. You don’t want me, then you—”

He palmed the back of his neck and turned to face her, his own voice low and lethal in his ears. “I don’t want you?

“No!”

“Are you insane?” he barked.

“Are you?”

“Jules,” he gasped, staring at her in disbelief because how could she not know this? Despite what he’d said on Monday, didn’t she know? Couldn’t she see? And then suddenly he was speaking, his words coming out in a rush, a relief, a completely inappropriate stream of consciousness that he’d never, ever meant to share with her. “I can’t think about anything but you. I dream about you. I have imaginary conversations with you. I go to YouTube and replay that press conference kiss over and over again to torture myself because I can’t get enough of seeing you in my arms, melting into me. I don’t want you?” He took a step toward her, stalking her, taking her arm so she couldn’t pull away from him, and leaning into her personal space until they were almost nose to nose. “I’ve never wanted anyone as much as I want you!”

My Review

★★★★

So this was a very odd read for me, due to the fact that I HATED the heroine for more than half of the book. That being said, I couldn’t put the book down.

Julianne is a very naive heroine. When faced with a chance to do something that someone with a political agenda asked her to do, knowing it can ruin someone’s life, she did it, without thinking of the bigger picture. She did eventually grow up, and become a heroine I loved.

I loved Chris’s character. Yes, he was an @$$ throughout the book, but seriously? He was forced in to doing something he didn’t want to do, with someone he despised.

The book drew me in from the beginning and I seriously couldn’t read it fast enough. Katy wrote an awesome book with this, and while one moment you may hate the hero/heroine, by the the end of the book they’ve both found a place in your heart and have redeemed themselves (I am seriously shocked by this, because I didn’t think I would ever like Julianne.) I loved catching up with the rest of the Winslows, and seeing how they were doing.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a phenomenal read

One weakness can change everything.
Meara and Liam were friends before they could talk, in love since they could drive, and planning their future before they graduated high school. In order to start the life they’ve always dreamed of, Liam just has to finish his tour with the band.
He doesn’t want anyone else. Liam’s only ever had eyes for Meara, and he can’t wait to finally get home to her. But when his dark secret is exposed and his entire world crumbles around him, he has no choice but to let her go.
Meara would wait for him forever. She knows that Liam will always be hers, especially now that she has an unexpected surprise for him. But just when the life she’s waited for is in her grasp, she discovers something that destroys her fairytale ending.
Can two people who are destined for each other find their future together with mistakes between them? Will their love be able to repair the heartbreak and lies?
One night was all it took for everything to fall apart.
Can one moment be all that’s needed to repair it?
“If you can’t figure it out on your own, I don’t need to give you a reason.”
Still in denial, I walk toward her until her back presses against the wall. My forearms rest on either side of her head. “I do, though. You’re my world, Meara. My reason. And without you, nothing makes sense. I’m fucking empty inside. I’m not even whole anymore. I’m a fragment of the man I used to be.” I rest my forehead on hers and she closes her eyes. I lower my voice because I’m on the verge of breaking down. “I can’t eat, can’t sleep, can’t function. My heart hurts, princess. It feels like it’s being torn in two and I don’t know how much longer I can survive like this. I need to know what I did so I can fix this. Fix us. I need to know you still love me as much as I love you. I need you, Meara. Christ, I can’t fucking breathe without you.”
Her lids slowly open. Not all the way, only enough for her to glare at me. “Just because you’re a lyrical genius doesn’t mean you can talk your way out of this.”
“I’m not writing a song. I’m telling you how I feel. How you know I feel about you. How I’ve always felt about you. Please. What can I do? I’ll do anything, just talk to me. Please. Anything.” I don’t even know what I’m begging for. Her forgiveness. Her trust. Her love. Any and all of it. I’ll take whatever she gives me. I’m starved for her, and even if it’s only a crumb, if it’s from her, I’ll swallow it and ask for more.

My Review

★★★★★

I loved this book!! Meara and Liam are an awesome couple, who go through so much, but still come out on top. Meara is the strength that Liam needs when he’s at his lowest, even when she seems to walk away. I love that they were childhood sweethearts and that they have a history together. This book drew me in, and sent me on an emotional roller coaster. While this is book 3 in the series, it can definitely be read as a standalone. I can’t wait to see what Anna has in store for us next, and I hope that it includes Meara’s employee Nik 🙂

I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great read!

Anna began writing when she thought the world would want to hear her sick lyrics through song. Since then, she’s realized her childhood dream wasn’t so far-fetched, just misguided. Now she writes romance with real emotions and happy endings. If Anna isn’t writing or reading, she can be found by a space heater painting her nails and drinking a ridiculous amount of Diet Dr Pepper. She also likes to hang out with her husband and two boys. If it wasn’t for them, she wouldn’t ever leave the house. Anna was born in Wisconsin but now lives in the Evergreen State.
